Sustainable Fibre Alliance

SFA is the first holistic sustainability standard for cashmere production to promote the adoption of responsible practices that benefit people, livestock and the environment.

INFORMATION

The Sustainable Fibre Alliance is the standard created by the international non-profit organisation of the same name and provides a recognised industry benchmark for sustainable cashmere production. The SFA provides a third-party certification that guarantees the production of internationally traded cashmere using only sustainable practices that result in a reduced environmental footprint and a fair economic return for participants throughout the chain of custody, from shepherds to retailers.

Sustainable Fibre Alliance guarantees:

  • textile products containing at least 5% certified cashmere, and where the product has a composition of 100% cashmere, at least 33% of this must be certified;
  • manufacturing activities and processes using management models and procedures that comply with the requirements.

CERTIFICATION PROCESS

1

Preliminary Assessment.
The initial assessment of products and the production process, which includes evaluating the composition of the products for which certification is sought, as well as the conformity of raw materials and suppliers.
2

On-site inspection.
On-site inspection aimed at ascertaining the actual conformity of products to SFA criteria, the correct organisation and management of production processes and internal procedures that could compromise product conformity, and the maintenance of the chain of custody to ensure that material is correctly identified and traceable.
3

Issuance of the Certificate of Conformity.
The issuance of the certificate based on the information and data collected during the evaluation and verification process.
4

Surveillance.
Annual surveillance, i.e. periodic inspections at production units, product storage and distribution centres, in order to verify the maintenance of conformity conditions.
