It certifies the sustainability characteristics of the construction materials concerning their potential contribution to activating credits provided by the LEED® building certification system.
What it is certified
The Green Building Council Italia (GBC Italy) adapts to the Italian reality and promotes the LEED® certification system Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for buildings, whose parameters define precise criteria for the design and construction of healthy, energy efficient and low environmental impact buildings.
The LEED® certification is based on specific standards for the different types of buildings and is organized into thematic sections for which credits and scores are defined.
ICEA assesses the performance characteristics of construction materials and issues a verified and third declaration of the potential contribution to the activation of LEED® credits.
For this purpose, specific LEED® Credit Application Guidelines for the different categories of building materials have been prepared. For each category, the LEED® Credits to which materials can contribute, as well as objective compliance indicators, are highlighted.
How to certify
ICEA issues the certification of construction products about LEED® criteria at the end of a 3-step process:
- Mapping of LEED® credits to identify the LEED® credits to which the product can contribute as under the Technical Regulations developed for the different categories of building materials.
- Initial assessment of products and production process which requires a verification that the product corresponds functionally to the declared use, the execution of any additional laboratory tests on the products to demonstrate the potential activation of LEED® credits and the evaluation of the product lifecycle through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology.
- On-site inspection: to verify the correct management of manufacturing processes, as well as the evaluation of the efficiency of processes and practices that may have an impact on the environment or the health and safety of workers.
