Agriculture Biologique (AB – France), certifies agricultural and livestock products, processed products for human consumption, animal feed. AB encourages the export of organic products to France. Historical trademark very popular and well known among French consumers.
The certification process is completed in one phase.
What it is certified
The national AB (Agriculture Biologique) trademark is widely used in France; it has been identifying organic products since the 1990s, before the entry into force of Community legislation.
Even today, despite the widespread use of the European organic logo, many French consumers still recognise organic products thanks to the presence of this trademark on their packaging. For this reason, French distributors also require the application of such trademark also for products ordered and/or purchased by Italian manufacturers.
The AB trademark, in fact, can be used freely and free of charge also by operators involved in organic farming and coming from the other member countries of the European Community, provided that products with AB trademark are obtained in compliance with Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007 and within the European Community.
For agricultural and livestock production, there are no requirements other than those imposed by Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007 and Regulation (EC) No. 889/2008.
Processed food and feed products can only be marked if they contain more than 95% organic ingredients (the same condition provided for the use of the EU logo).
Products of animal origin not yet covered by the European regulation shall be produced in compliance with the specific national product specification “cahier des charges français”.
The use of the mark is also permitted in pet food, which shall comply with the national specification, provided that it contains at least 95% of raw materials of agricultural origin from organic farming.
