Feed and pet food.<\/p>\n

The principles and criteria set by the regulation for the production of organic feed are similar to those provided for in food preparation.<\/p>\n

In Reg. CE 889\/08 <\/a><\/strong>the few conventional ingredients, additives and adjuvants allowed and the rules for labeling are listed.<\/p>\n

The feed can be labeled as “organic” only when it contains at least 95% of organic raw materials; alternatively it is possible to label the feed as “admitted in organic farming” specifying exactly the content of organic, conversion or conventional raw materials. The same raw material cannot be present simultaneously in the bio and conventional version.<\/p>\n

Also in the case of feed prohibited the use of ionizing radiation and any substance derived from or obtained from GMOs even for the few conventional ingredients allowed.<\/p>\n

Organic production must take place by ensuring separate processes in space<\/strong> (thanks to dedicated systems) or over time<\/strong>. In the latter case, the plant must be adequately cleaned before starting organic production.<\/p>\n

In accordance with art. 42 of the (Reg. CE 834\/07)<\/a><\/strong>, following the approval of the National Regulations for the production of food for pets, also Pet-Foods can be certified according to Reg. CE 834\/07.<\/p>\n

\nNotification of production activity with organic methods.<\/span>
\nNotification to the competent authority through the Biological Information System (SIB) or similar regional systems. The operator declares the type of activity, the productive units and the chains of activities subjected to the control. The companies that prepare feed and pet food declare the establishments where organic production takes place, including any subcontractors not directly subject to the control system.

\nInitial evaluation of the production process.<\/span>
\nThe operator presents a management plan in order to describe all the measures it intends to take to comply with the organic requirements, referring to the activity carried out. Operators who carry out feed preparation and pet food activities provide the Annual Preparation Program (PAP), the list of suppliers of biological raw materials and the formulations of all the feeds for which certification is required.

\nStart inspection audit.<\/span>
\nIt is aimed at verifying the correct application and effectiveness of the declared measures of the management plan and other related documents. Furthermore, the suitability of the structure and the correct management of the company production processes in relation to the requisites required by the European legislation for the various sectors of activity is also assessed.

\nIssue of the Justificatory Document and Certificate of Conformity.<\/span>
\nBased on the information and data collected in the assessment and verification process. The Certificate of Conformity shows the list of certified products and their classification based on the “organic” or “in conversion” production method. Product labels must be authorized in advance by the competent ICEA office.

\nAnnual monitoring.<\/span>
\nThrough periodic inspections and analyzes planned on the basis of a careful analysis of the risks aimed at confirming the maintenance of the conditions of compliance and the punctual and correct keeping of the mandatory records required for control purposes.
