Japan Agricultural Standards (JAS)<\/strong> is the mandatory certification for exporting and marketing organic products in Japan. Certifies agricultural and livestock products, processed products intended for human and animal nutrition (excluding wine, alcoholic beverages and aquaculture products).<\/p>\n[\/spb_text_block] [blank_spacer height=”85px” width=”1\/1″ el_position=”first last”] [spb_text_block title=”INFORMATIONS” pb_margin_bottom=”no” pb_border_bottom=”no” el_class=”info” width=”1\/1″ el_position=”first last”]\n

The Japanese legislation on organic JAS (Japan Agricultural Standards)<\/strong> in force since 2002, provides that organic products are controlled and certified by a Japanese institution (RCO Registered Certification Organization) or abroad (RFCO Registered Foreign Certification Organization)<\/strong> registered with the Ministry of Agriculture of Japan (MAFF)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

ICEA is among the first European control bodies to have obtained MAFF<\/strong> recognition and offers the operators controlled also this indispensable certification<\/strong> in order to market organic products in Japan.<\/p>\n

JAS certification applies to all food and feed products<\/strong>, with the exception of wine<\/strong>, alcoholic beverages<\/strong> and aquaculture<\/strong> products.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the existing equivalence agreements with the European Union, Japan has recognized the validity of the EU Organic certification (Reg. CE 834\/07)<\/strong> for what concerns the vegetable productions<\/strong> (the only difference with respect to the community legislation is the prohibition of employment of calcium chloride as leaf fertilizer).<\/p>\n

The JAS certification, therefore, is required only for food industries<\/strong> (excluding those that only carry out packaging), and for companies that produce livestock products.<\/p>\n

The JAS legislation requires the presence in the company of two distinct figures<\/strong>, the “Responsible for the production process<\/strong>” and the “Responsible for verifying the conformity of the product before the sale<\/strong>” (grading).
\nOnly on farms<\/strong> can the two roles be covered by a single person<\/strong>. The grading manager decides which batches and batches of the product really conform to the organic method according to JAS standards.<\/p>\n

\nThe company requires the control and certification service by sending the necessary documentation in order to start the certification process.

\nPreliminary assessment.<\/span>
\nThe applicant company must describe all the work procedures and the production techniques adopted. The laboratories and the food industries, in addition to the documentation already sent for the release of the organic certification CE Reg. 834\/07 (recipes, list of suppliers, management plan) must also present the management plan for the grading activity.

\nOn-site inspection verification.<\/span>
\nICEA sends a Supervisory Technician to all the operators in the production chain, in order to verify the effective compliance with the Japanese legislation, in particular as regards the most restrictive parameters with respect to EU legislation.

\nIssue of the Certificate of Conformity.<\/span>
\nBased on the information and data collected in the assessment and verification process. The certificate contains the list of certified products that meet the requirements of the JAS regulation.

\nSurveillance: periodic inspections and analyzes.<\/span>
\nICEA establishes an annual surveillance through periodic inspections and analyzes aimed at confirming the maintenance of the compliance conditions.
